Modern dance is a dance style created and transformed in the last century. It focuses on interpretation, and opposes the rigidity of ballet. Modern dance will challenge personal limits in flexibility, balance, strength, stamina and projected emotion. Students:
- Improve coordination, flexibility, endurance, strength, and body awareness through developmentally-appropriate exercises designed to challenge, but not exhaust
- Participate in exercises in the center of the floor while demonstrating proper posture and positioning to encourage injury prevention and safe technique
- Participate in group activities and projects
- Set and strive toward team and self-goals in a safe and supportive environment
- Explore the history of dance and movement
- Study rhythm, dynamics, individuality, style and self-expression
- Participate in the annual recital
